Diwali, the festival of light, is one of the most important festivals in India. The main goddess that is celebrated is Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and abundance. This ceremony will honor her by designing, building, and sacrificing, a yantra to her. The ritual will be carried out at two occasions.

PART I:  In the first part, will consist in the participants chopping 64 cedar wood logs, as well as drawing a the Lakshmi yantra, and then placing the logs in specific locations. On the occasion I will give a brief of the meaning of cutting wood manually; the type of axe, how to hold it, the necessary mindset, the right swing, etc. There will be a manual for designing the yantra.

PART II:  The second part, falling on the dark moon day of the month of Karthik in the Hindu calendar, will consist in participating in a fire ceremony (havan), where the logs of the yantra will be the fuel for the fire. By doing the fire ritual, we will finish Lakshmi’s celestial palace. The havan consists of throwing offerings into the fire while chanting a mantra dedicated to Lakshmi. After the ceremony there will be a small Indian snack served.
